Fabian Schär completed 90 minutes for Switzerland as they were beaten 2-1 by Belgium in an international friendly on Wednesday.

The Newcastle United defender lined up for his country at the King Power Stadion at Den Dreef in Leuven, and saw his side take an early lead through Admir Mehmedi’s 12th-minute opener.

Switzwerland, who made four changes to their line-up at the break, were pegged back four minutes after the restart by Michy Batshuayi.

And with 20 minutes remaining, the frontman’s second of the night completed the turnaround and handed the hosts the victory.

Schär will now sit out his side’s UEFA Nations League game against Spain on Saturday through suspension after his red card against Germany last month, but could return to competitive action when Switzerland host Ukraine in Lucerne on Tuesday night.

Emil Krafth, meanwhile, sat out Sweden’s 2-0 defeat to Denmark in Copenhagen.

Goals from Jonas Wind and Alexander Bah settled the contest, with Sweden now set to take on Croatia in Stockholm on Saturday and France in Paris on Tuesday in back-to-back Nations League fixtures.
