Santiago Muñoz signed off for the summer with a goal as Mexico Under-21s secured third place in the Maurice Revello Tournament on Sunday.

Muñoz lined up against Colombia in the third place play-off for what would be Mexico's last outing in the competition after their semi-final elimination by France last week.

And just over a quarter of an hour into the contest in Salon-de-Provence, Newcastle United forward Muñoz headed his country in front with his second goal in five close-season outings for El Tri's under-21s.

He then provided the assist for Efrain Alvarez to net their second just after the hour mark, rounding off a productive fortnight with a 2-0 victory.

Muñoz was withdrawn with just under 20 minutes remaining, and will now return to Tyneside ahead of pre-season and the remainder of his 18-month loan from Santos Laguna.

A handful of other Magpies were in international action over the weekend, with Kieran Trippier completing 90 minutes for England as they were held to a goalless draw by Italy at Molineux.

After playing the full game for Gareth Southgate's men in the 1-1 draw in Germany last week, the United defender again lined up at left back for the UEFA Nations League clash, and helped the Three Lions keep a clean sheet against the EURO 2020 winners.

Sweden's Emil Krafth returned from suspension to start against Norway in Oslo, but suffered a 3-2 defeat in his Nations League outing.

Krafth picked up a yellow card during the game, but did manage to get 90 minutes under his belt on his 43rd appearance for his country.

Jeff Hendrick entered the fray as a late substitute in the Republic of Ireland's 3-0 win over Scotland in the same competition, replacing Jayson Molumby for the final six minutes as Stephen Kenny's charges recorded an emphatic win in Dublin.

But Fabian Schär missed out on gametime in Switzerland’s 1-0 win over Portugal, watching on from the bench as Haris Seferovic’s first-minute strike settled the match in Geneva.
