The game was played at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia - the home of the Philadelphia Eagles - and at times the fixture looked set to end in an NFL scoreline. Villa surged into a two-goal lead inside the opening 11 minutes, through Ollie Watkins and Emi Buendía, but United fought back before half time with Elliot Anderson netting his second goal of pre-season and Alexander Isak equalising in first-half stoppage time.

Buendía's second of the game put Villa ahead once more early in the second half, but Callum Wilson restored parity for a second time in the 55th minute. There was no further scoring, but more opportunities at both ends as the passionate and vocal fans in Pennsylvania's largest city were treated to an open and exciting affair.

They also got to witness Harvey Barnes' debut, just hours after the England international completed his move to the Magpies, and the players and coaching staff showed their appreciation for their support at the final whistle. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
