Newcastle United midfielder Alfie Harrison has been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for April.

The promising 18-year-old, who joined the Magpies from Manchester City in February 2024, enjoyed a fine month after starting all five of United's Premier League 2 fixtures, producing three assists in the process.

The Bradford-born youngster's bright displays have earned him a place on the eight-man shortlist, chosen by the Premier League Football Development panel after club coaches nominated the best performances by opposing players in each league fixture, for the award.

Harrison will be aiming to continue his bright form at under-21 level when Newcastle's second-string face an away trip to Ashington in the Northumberland Senior Cup semi-finals on Thursday evening (kick-off 7.30pm BST), with the winner of the tie facing Blyth Town in the final, which is to be staged at St. James' Park.

Nominated alongside Harrison are Adrian Akande of Reading, Nottingham Forest duo Aaron Bott and Jack Thompson, Amario Cozier-Duberry of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur pair Rio Kyerematen and Will Lankshear as well as Dujuan Richards of Chelsea.

The winner, also chosen by the Premier League Football Development panel, will be announced next week.
