"It's really exciting (at Newcastle)," she told nufc.co.uk. "There are big things ahead for the club and I think it’s only going to keep getting better and growing.
"I've been at Durham for seven years and I grew up at that club, but I think I reached a point where I am ready to make that next step in my career and I think Newcastle is that right step with the project that they have ahead of them and it just seems very exciting."
Coming from Durham, a Barclays Women's Championship club, Greenwood believes that as well as contributing on the pitch, she has valuable knowledge that she can impart to her new team-mates.
"I've had a bit of experience in full-time football at Durham," she explained. "I know what it takes to be a full-time footballer and I'd like to think I can bring that experience.
"In terms of football, I'd like to think I am quite calm on the ball. I like to play forward quite quickly and build attacks. I also like to get stuck in, in defence.
"(I have experience) playing against some really tough teams, technically and also physically. I think that will be useful to bring to the team and have that experience and pass on my knowledge."
Newcastle Women will be playing in the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division next term, one step below the Championship. Despite this, Greenwood identified one key element that drew her towards the club.
"It just seems like a big family club," she said. "Everybody seems very proud to play for Newcastle and the fans seem incredible and very passionate.
"There is just a buzz around the club at the minute. Hopefully, long term we can really push and see how far we can take it."
