It will be the third game involving Newcastle United that Gillett has officiated this term; he was the man in the middle for the thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City at St. James' Park in August, when he showed six yellow cards, and the 2-1 win at Tottenham, when he flashed another six yellow cards. But while he has handed out 32 bookings so far in the current campaign, he's yet to send a player off.

The Australian official, born in Queensland, made history last season after becoming the first overseas referee to take charge of a Premier League fixture during Newcastle's 1-1 draw away at Watford in September 2021.

Coincidentally, the 36-year-old whistler, who was promoted to the Select Group in June 2021, was the referee for the Magpies' last meeting with Leicester - a 2-1 home win in April 2022.
