The 22-year-old, who spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley last season, has linked up with the Mariners and will remain at Blundell Park until Saturday, 4th January 2020.

Gibson made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies’ under-23 last term, having returned to action after over a year out with illness.

The left back – who featured for United’s first team in their friendly win over Lillestrom in February 2016 – then made a further five appearances in League One for Accy, who he joined on loan in January 2019.

He also had a spell on loan at Gateshead in 2015.

Grimsby, who are managed by Michael Jolley, kick off their campaign with a trip to Morecambe on Saturday, 3rd August.
