- Born in Rio de Janeiro, Guimarães made his professional debut at the age of 17 for Audax in his native country before establishing himself in the first-team of the São Paulo-based outfit.
- Following a positive loan stint at Athletico Paranaense during the 2017/18 campaign, the defensive midfielder completed a permanent move to the Série A side on a three-year deal.
- After amassing a century of competitive outings for Paranaense, winning four trophies as well as featuring in the 2019 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A Team of the Year, Guimarães signed for Lyon in January 2020.
