Switzerland drew 1-1 with Wales in their opening group game of Euro 2020, with Fabian Schär playing the full match in Baku

Starting at the heart of the Swiss defence, the Newcastle United man almost gave the Rossocrociati the lead in the 20th minute, but his sublime flick was well saved by Danny Ward.

Schär also picked up a first-half yellow card before Breel Emobolo gave Vladimir Petkovic's side the lead in the 49th minute.

But Kieffer Moore levelled in the 74th minute with a fine header and while Mario Gavranovic had the ball in the net for the Swiss late on, it was ruled out for offside by VAR.

Former Newcastle full-back Kevin Mbabu also played the 90 minutes for Switzerland, who take on Italy in Rome in their second game on Wednesday. They then face Turkey back in Baku in their final Group A match on Sunday, 20th June.

On Monday, three more Newcastle United players will be in Euro 2020 action: Ryan Fraser for Scotland against the Czech Republic at Hampden Park (2pm BST), Martin Dúbravka for Slovakia against Poland in St. Petersburg (5pm BST) and Emil Krafth for Sweden against Spain in Seville (8pm BST).
