Scotland's involvement in their first major tournament since 1998 has ended at the group stage after they were beaten by Croatia on Tuesday night

The Tartan Army needed to win at Hampden Park to progress, but lost 3-1 with Nikola Vlašic and Luka Modric scoring either side of Callum McGregor's strike for the Scots before Ivan Perišic also got his name on the scoresheet.

Newcastle United's Ryan Fraser started on the bench but was introduced in the 70th minute for his second appearance of the tournament. However, he was unable to help Steve Clarke's men find a route back into the game as they finished bottom of Group D with one point.

England, who have Graeme Jones as part of the coaching staff for the duration of the competition, won the group following a 1-0 victory against Czech Republic at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Monday's results mean Fabian Schär's Switzerland are through to the next round as one of the best third-placed teams, while Group E leaders Sweden and Emil Krafth are also certain of their place in the last 16 ahead of their final group game with Poland in St. Petersburg.

Martin Dúbravka's Slovakia are hoping to join them, but face a tough test against Spain in Seville on Wednesday evening.
