Teenage Newcastle defender in England squad for UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals

The County Durham-born teenager is included in Steve Cooper's 18-man squad for the tournament in Croatia. England lifted the trophy in 2010 and again in 2014, when Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman both featured.

The Young Lions begin their campaign against Norway in Velika Gorica on Thursday, 4th May, before facing Ukraine in Sesvete on Sunday, 7th May and the Netherlands in Zapresic three days later.

Gibson - who has been a regular for Newcastle at under-18 level this season - helped England to reach the tournament in comfortable fashion, as they won all three of their Elite qualifying round matches.

The top two nations in each of the four groups will advance to the quarter finals. This season’s Euro finals act as a qualifying competition for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which is being staged in India in October.
