Tyler Dodds is thrilled at the prospect of fulfilling her lifelong ambition of playing in the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle United

The Gateshead-born winger has previously played for Barclays Women's Championship sides Durham Women and Sunderland Ladies but says that when Becky Langley's Newcastle Women came knocking, it was a proposition she could not refuse.

"I'm buzzing," she began. "It is the club I support. I have always supported Newcastle and it's the team my whole family supports.

"I would have loved to be here my whole career, and it feels nice to finally be in black and white."

Dodds has significant experience in the Championship and even in the UEFA Women's Champions League - from her time at Glasgow City - but says she is excited to join a Newcastle team that is "going in the right direction".

"Your pride kicks in and you want to be playing at the highest level possible," she said.

"But once the opportunity came along I just thought Newcastle is going in the right direction and if we get promoted in my first season, I haven't lost out on much.

"To get to play for the team I support is a massive bonus."

The 27-year-old's move to the Magpies is also a plus for her family, who have supported her throughout her career.

"They are over the moon," Dodds added. "My mam has been my top supporter from every team I've been at.

"She's taken me to training sessions over an hour away and waited for me. She's been buzzing for everything but as soon as I mentioned Newcastle, the amount of hugs I've got - and I'm not a hugger - honestly, it's amazing.

"Everyone is so happy, they can't wait to be here (at St. James' Park) and watching me in the black and white shirt."
