Mike Dean has been confirmed as the referee for Newcastle United’s trip to Burnley next week.

Dean, who was the fourth official in United’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at St. James’ Park on Saturday, will be the man in the middle at Turf Moor next Monday night.

It will be the 49-year-old’s seventh game this term, which have all come in the Premier League. In those matches, the Wirral whistler has shown 23 yellow cards and one red; ten of those yellows came in Bournemouth’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in August, while he also showed a red to Raheem Sterling in that game at the Vitality Stadium.

Last term, Dean took charge of 36 matches in the Premier League, Championship, League One, the FA Cup and EFL Cup, showing 138 yellow cards and five reds.

Monday’s game against the Clarets will be the first time Dean has refereed a Magpies game since the 2015/16 season, when he oversaw the 3-3 draw against Manchester United at St. James’ Park.

He also officiated the 3-2 defeat at Norwich City as Rafa Benítez’s side battled to remain in the top flight, as well as the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, where Andros Townsend’s free kick won it for United.

Dean will be assisted by Simon Long and Ian Hussin on Monday, and Lee Mason will be the fourth official.
