Goalkeeper Karl Darlow is the latest Magpies player to feature on the cover of the official matchday programme, for this Saturday’s visit of Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 27-year-old has now racked up over half a century of appearances for the club since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2014.

In that time, Darlow has suffered relegation before becoming a key part of the side that bounced straight back by winning the Championship title, and he has had to fight for a starting berth once more this term, making five outings in all competitions.

The gloveman reflects on a hectic few years in Saturday’s issue of UNITED, looking back on some of the ups and downs as well as the perspective his experiences have given him.

“I try to enjoy it. It’s a massive concentration thing with a goalkeeper. You still enjoy it, just playing and being part of the team,” said Darlow.

“I’ve worked so hard to get here, so while I’m here I might as well enjoy it, because it’s only a short career. I might not have ever played for Newcastle again, so while I’m here and when I play, it’s a big thing for me to enjoy my football and enjoy playing in front of 52,000 at St. James’.”

Also in Saturday’s issue, Football Development Officer Jill Stacey explains why things are looking up for the Magpies' women's team - where she is also first-team coach - and talks about her own, varied role at St. James' Park in United Backstage.

Former captain Irving Nattrass looks back at his time with the club in a four-page interview, and Paul Joannou lifts the lid on the earliest known photo of Newcastle United in his regular Gems in the Attic feature.

To read all of this, and much more, pick up a copy of UNITED from around St. James’ Park or in the club store on Saturday, priced at just £3.
