David Coote will be the referee for Newcastle United's Premier League visit of Burnley on Saturday night (kick-off 8pm BST).

The Nottinghamshire official took charge of his first Premier League game at St. James' Park back in 2018 as United suffered a 1-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion.

Coote was the man in the middle for four of United's competitive fixtures last term, including the Magpies' 3-0 victory against Sheffield United, which saw Blades defender Jon Egan shown a red card.

The other occasions included a 2-1 home win against Southampton, a 1-1 draw at Rochdale in the FA Cup third round and a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in July.

So far this season, Coote has handed 14 yellow cards in the three fixtures he has officiated but is yet to dish out a red.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Lee Betts and Nick Hopton while Martin Atkinson will be the fourth official. Paul Tierney will be in charge of VAR and will be aided by Mark Scholes.
