Newcastle United get behind supporters' scheme

Entitled 'NUFC Supporter Foodbanks’, the initiative is to be kicked off with a launch event to be held at Tyneside Irish Centre on Thursday 26th January 2017 at 7.30 pm with a special screening of the critically acclaimed film 'I, Daniel Blake', shown with the permission of director Ken Loach.

Admission to the event is free but any donations, raffle prizes, contributions will be gratefully accepted on the night. Fans are encouraged to attend the event to support this initiative.

Mike Nixon, who oversees the great work carried out by Newcastle West End Foodbank - the biggest of its kind in the country - will provide some background information in respect of the work they do prior to the showing of the film at 8pm.

Following the event, information with regard to match day collections close to St. James Park will be announced.

A spokesman for the project said: “Having been inspired by food banks set up by other fans around the country, we have been working to set up a similar initiative in Newcastle.

“We believe this is a classic example of fans supporting members of their local community at times of need.

“We are particularly pleased that the initiative has the full support of the club.”
