Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin captained his country for the first time in USA's 1-1 friendly draw against Chile on Tuesday.

It was a proud moment for the 25-year-old, who led his side out at Texas' BBVA Compass Stadium, with Christian Pulisic's fourth minute opener cancelled out by the Copa America champions as Oscar Opazo grabbed the equaliser for the Chileans.

The Newcastle right-back will now return to Tyneside as the Magpies look to continue their preparations for Monday's Premier League trip to Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Miguel Almirón had an evening to forget as the 25-year-old was sent off in Paraguay's 4-2 defeat to Mexico in Calfornia.

Before receiving his marching orders, Almirón made an instant impact just three minutes after his introduction from the bench on 56 minutes, providing an assist for Hernan Perez's consolation goal. However, the South American lasted seven minutes as a late challenge on Jose Juan Vasquez resulted in a straight red card.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Mo Sangare made his first start for Liberia with the under-23s midfielder - who made his international debut against DR Congo on Sunday - playing 59 minutes for the Lone Stars in their 1-0 loss to Ivory Coast. Aston Villa forward Jonathan Kodjia netted the injury-time winner.

On Monday, Elias Sørensen was in action for Denmark under-20s but the under-23s forward was unable to grab an equaliser for his country after coming for the final 20 minutes of the Danes' 1-0 defeat to Romania under-21s.

Salomón Rondón was an unused substitute in Venezuela's surprising 2-1 defeat against Catalonia while Freddie Woodman did not feature for England under-21s as the young Lions' 19-game unbeaten streak ended after a 2-1 loss to Germany at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium.
