Cameron, 19, joined the Exiles on loan until January in the summer, and has established himself in Graham Westley's team in recent weeks, making the left back berth his own.
Newport are now unbeaten in four games in all competitions, and are now only five points from safety at the foot of League Two.
But Cameron - who featured for Scotland Under-21s in their friendly in Slovakia on Thursday night - says he's been enjoying his time in Wales, and believes his loan club are "heading in the right direction" after a tough start to the campaign.
"I've been here for two months now and things have been going well. We've had a change of manager in recent weeks, and the new gaffer has come in and upped the intensity a little bit in training - he wants a bit more from us," Cameron told nufc.co.uk.
"It's all been good, and it's all been heading in the right direction.
"The boys were good and welcomed me, and after a couple of weeks, once you get to know everyone's names, everything starts to fall into place. With me living with a few of the boys in a shared house, we've just gelled together really quickly.
"We've all got our eyes on moving up the table as a squad and as a club. All the little fine details are just getting ironed out and all the mistakes are going out of our game a bit now and it's more focused on us, and what we can do to teams.
"It just looks like it's all going to be heading in the right direction, and I think we've got some big things that could happen this season if we all keep working hard and push in the right direction."
Cameron enjoyed two spells out on loan last season, at EvoStik Northern Premier Division side Workington and in League Two with York City.
And the teenager reckons that his spell at Bootham Crescent in particular - where he made 18 appearances in the fourth tier - gave him a taste of what to expect during his current loan spell, and stood him in good stead by helping to improve his game.
"I think I've made maybe 20-odd appearances now, and it's always changing and always adapting," Cameron said of League Two. "There's new players coming in on loan to different clubs, so I don't think you ever know fully what's going to be in front of you.
"From the loan spell last season, having looked at my clips again from last year, I can definitely see a big improvement in myself. I'm just looking forward to keeping going, and keeping going in that right direction, improving and getting better."
Former Peterborough boss Westley took charge of the Exiles in October, and has led Newport on their best run of the campaign so far.
Cameron, who picked up his third cap for Scotland Under-21s this week, says he's enjoying learning from his new manager.
"There's just little things that you learn, and different gaffers have different ways of dealing with things, and different little things that they put in your head to think about when you go onto the pitch on a Saturday," he said.
"The gaffer at the minute is quite hands-on with the defenders in training, and he's always talking to me and a lot of the other younger lads and just trying to help us."
