Eddie Howe's side go in search of a place in the last eight, with his former club - now managed by Gary O'Neil - the only side standing between the Magpies and a quarter-final berth.

And Brooks has stepped in for Peter Bankes, who was initially set to referee the game but has succumbed to a slight knock that will keep him sidelined for the midweek fixture.

The 32-year-old was promoted to the top flight last year after serving as a Premier League assistant referee as well as a Select Group 2 official - a position he held since 2018. His appointment at St. James' comes almost a year to the day since his first top flight outing in the game between Wolves and Burnley at Molineux.

So far this term, he has overseen matches in the Premier League, Championship and Carabao Cup.
