The Magpies travel to the capital hoping to secure a first Premier League win at Stamford Bridge since 2012, and Brooks has been appointed for the fixture, which will be his third game involving Eddie Howe's side this term.

Brooks took charge of United's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at St. James' Park back in August, when he booked the hosts' Kieran Trippier and sent off the Reds' Virgil van Dijk. More recently, he was in the middle for Newcastle's 3-1 win at Aston Villa in January, when Anthony Gordon was among five players to receive yellow cards.

The Leicestershire official, who has been operating in the top flight since 2021, also refereed Saudi Arabia's 3-1 friendly defeat to Costa Rica at St. James' Park in September. An international referee since last summer, he has officiated in the Europa Conference League this season, and has overseen some notable EURO 2024 qualifiers, such as Portugal's 9-0 win over Luxembourg and France's 14-0 victory over Gibraltar in November.
