Elysia Boddy says she "can't wait to get started" at Newcastle United Women after putting pen to paper with the Magpies ahead of the 2023/24 season

The 19-year-old midfielder was part of the Bristol City Women squad that won the Barclays Women's Championship last season and joins United with experience in the Women's Super League (WSL) with Leicester City Women too.

Having signed for the Magpies on Wednesday, she gave an insight into what she will look to bring to Becky Langley's side.

"I think on the pitch I am really determined and hard-working," she told nufc.co.uk.

"I will fight for the team, the manager and the club and you will always get 100 per cent from me no matter what."

Boddy made her senior debut for Middlesbrough Women at the age of 16 and made her WSL debut aged 18.

And as she continues to strive for further achievements, she believes that Newcastle is the right place for her to take her career to the next level.

"The vision of where the club want to be (made my mind up)," she added.

"It was a no-brainer when I spoke to Becky about where they want to take the club. That was a major part of me signing here.

"She believes and trusts in the players that she brings in, which is massive to me. Her aspirations are similar to mine so that was really important."

Looking ahead to the start of the 2023/24 season, which will see Newcastle compete in the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division following promotion last term, Boddy outlined her ambitions.

"Short term, the goal is to get promoted this season," she said.

"Long term, (our aim) is to reach the WSL and I believe we can achieve that."
