Elysia Boddy says that the commitment of the Newcastle United Women supporters is the main driving force behind the Magpies' desire to succeed this season

Boddy joined Newcastle in the summer, as Becky Langley's team turned professional and began life in the third tier.

Now top of the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division by five points, ahead of the visit of Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the midfielder says that while Langley's team don't look too far ahead, they have an overarching ambition that underpins everything they do week in, week out.

"We take every game as it comes and each day as it comes, in each training session," she said. "But also at the back of our mind is everything that we do is for that end goal, to get promoted.

"That's for ourselves as a club but also we want to do it for the fans because we know how much it means to them."

Boddy played in the Magpies' Women's FA Cup tie at Manchester United last weekend and, despite being defeated by the Women's Super League side, she feels that the way that she is performing personally and how Langley's team are playing is a good sign for the remainder of the season.

"It has been amazing," she said, discussing the first six months of her time at the club. "I just felt at home as soon as I came. I really settled straight away and in terms of football, I am extremely confident at the minute.

"I am confident in what I am doing, I am confident in what the team is doing. I'm feeling really fit and technically sharp. I have had little setbacks with small injuries, little niggles but nothing that has kept me out for more than a week or so.

"But I am really enjoying it and just want to keep kicking on and helping the team as much as I can, and hopefully get us promoted at the end of the season."
