Defender Jodie Bartle has signed for Newcastle United Women ahead of the 2023/24 season

Bartle, 31, joins from Barclays Women's Championship side Coventry United Women, where she was captain in her second stint at the club last term.

The right-back re-signed for Coventry in the summer of 2022, having spent two-and-a-half-years with Scottish giants Celtic Women.

During her time in Glasgow, Bartle experienced UEFA Women's Champions League football and lifted both the Scottish Women's Football League Cup and the Women's Scottish Cup.

Before her first stint at Coventry, the defender worked her way up the leagues, captaining Peterborough Northern Star and playing for Loughborough Foxes.

Bartle arrives on Tyneside with a great deal of know-how that she will no doubt be willing to impart to her new team-mates for United's upcoming season in the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division.

Thrilled with the acquisition of the experienced defender, Newcastle Women manager Becky Langley said: "Jodie is a born leader.

"She is professional and brings great experience from captaining Celtic and Coventry. She is a very athletic and competent one-on-one defender and she will add experience and quality to our side."

See Jodie Bartle in action when Newcastle United Women play West Bromwich Albion Women at St. James' Park on Saturday, 5th August as part of the two-day Sela Cup, presented by VisitMalta. Buy tickets here.
