Ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night (kick-off 8pm BST), we take a look at the Magpies' best victories against Wolves over the years...

A com-four-table victory for United (2010/11)

Newcastle proved too strong for Wolves in April 2011 as the Magpies inflicted a 4-1 defeat over their West Midlands opponents at St. James' Park.

Kevin Nolan opened the scoring with his 12th goal of the season after slotting home from Shola Ameobi's headed assist before Ameobi turned from provider to goalscorer as the striker doubled Newcastle's advantage on the stroke of half time.

Peter Lovenkrands extended United's lead shortly after the restart, finishing off an intricate move involving Joey Barton and Fabricio Coloccini.

Despite Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's reply for the visitors, Jonás Gutiérrez's late finish eased Alan Pardew's side any nerves of relegation against their fellow strugglers, with the Magpies finishing in 12th place on 46 points.

United continue unbeaten start (2011/12)

Newcastle achieved their best Premier League start since 1994 following a 2-1 victory at Molineux in October 2011.

United's summer signing, Demba Ba, netted his fourth goal in two games after heading in at the near post from Yohan Cabaye's corner before the highlight of the Premier League clash was created by Jonás Gutiérrez, with the Argentine winger scoring a superb second after a mazy run beginning on the left wing.

Despite Tim Krul's impressive display in front of goal, Wolves halved the deficit in the closing stages through Steven Fletcher before United were fortunate as, despite Wanderers' Kevin Doyle netting minutes later, the assistant referee's flag was raised for offside.

Mitro moves Magpies to Championship summit (2016/17)

After Brighton & Hove Albion's win over Burton earlier in the day, United reclaimed top spot in the Championship by beating Wolves in February, with striker Aleksandar Mitrović netting the only goal at Molineux.

The Serbian forward had been fortunate to escape a second yellow card following a foul on Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme before slotting home the eventual winner in the final stages of the first half.

After Wolves failed to clear their lines from a free kick, the ball eventually fell kindly into Mitrović's path, who made no mistake from close range to score his first goal since October.

Newcastle gain revenge in League Cup (2016/17)

After a surprising 2-0 defeat to their Championship opponents at the weekend, Newcastle exacted revenge with a 2-0 victory three days later to progress into the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Two goals in as many minutes was enough to seal United's passage into the last 16 as Matt Ritchie's strike on the half-hour mark opened the scoring swiftly followed by Yoan Gouffran's fierce volley.

The Magpies went on to reach the quarter-final stages of the competition that year before narrowly losing on penalties at Hull City in the last eight.

David's double secures win for high-flying Magpies (1992/93)

Newcastle United continued their dominance in the First Division but were made to come from behind in a 2-1 triumph, with striker David Kelly bagging a brace at St. James' Park on Boxing Day.

Paul Cook gave the away side a shock lead against Kevin Keegan's side before Kelly equalised in the closing stages of the first-half with his 10th league goal of the season.

The forward, who would depart Newcastle for Wolves the following summer, continued his rich goalscoring form after notching his and United's second of the afternoon, his sixth goal in five league matches, to deliver the Magpies' ninth win in 12 home matches.

United stormed towards the Division One title during the 1992-93 campaign, finishing on 96 points to secure promotion to the Premier League.
