Ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League clash against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 12.30pm BST), we take a look at the Magpies' best victories against the Hammers at St. James' Park...

Jonás' unforgettable goal (2014/15)

Jonás Gutiérrez was the hero as Newcastle United survived relegation on the final day of the 2014/15 campaign, securing a vital 2-0 win against the Hammers at St. James' Park.

The Magpies knew a victory against Sam Allardyce's side would guarantee Premier League safety and condemn Hull City to the Championship and, after a tense first-half, the stadium erupted as Moussa Sissoko broke the deadlock nine minutes after the restart with a far post header from Gutiérrez's inviting cross.

With five minutes remaining, the Argentine winger - who had faced a difficult battle with testicular cancer - sparked emotional scenes after doubling the hosts' lead with a skidded finish in front of the Gallowgate End before passionately wheeling away to celebrate.

Best's hat-trick in five-star display (2010/11)

Leon Best netted a hat-trick on his first Premier League start for Newcastle as the Magpies thrashed West Ham 5-0 in January 2011.

The hosts raced into a three-goal lead before half-time as Best broke the deadlock with his first competitive goal for the club before the Nottingham-born forward doubled his tally six minutes before half-time.

Kevin Nolan, who would join the Hammers in June, grabbed Newcastle's third on the stroke of half-time before Best completed his treble on the hour-mark after blasting home from the edge of the penalty area.

Lovenkrands completed the rout three minutes later with his first goal of the season on home soil after poking home Joey Barton's cross.

Three goals, three points (2017/18)

Newcastle scored their first goals and recorded their first points of the 2017/18 season following a 3-0 victory against Slaven Bilić's side.

Joselu slotted in the Magpies' opener on his full debut after Mikel Merino's beautifully-weighted pass found its way to Christian Atsu who unselfishly squared the ball to the Spanish striker who placed the ball home.

After misfiring in defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town, Rafa Benítez's side increased their lead as Matt Ritchie's cross was nodded into the net by Ciaran Clark and, in the closing moments, Aleksandar Mitrović added the hosts' third after rounding goalkeeper Joe Hart before slotting home.

LuaLua's brace gives United lift off (2002/03)

Newcastle scored four second-half goals on the opening week of the 2002/03 campaign as Lomana LuaLua netted twice in a 4-0 win under the lights at St. James' Park.

After a goalless 45 minutes, the Monday night clash sprung into life as the hosts took the lead through LuaLua's close-range finish after Jermaine Jenas headed Nolberto Solano's swinging free-kick into the forward's path.

The DR Congo international grabbed his and Newcastle's second after powerfully heading home from Hugo Viana's pinpoint cross before Alan Shearer, who had seen a first-half effort ruled out for offside, opened his account for the 2002/03 season after firing home from Solano's pass.

The homegrown striker turned from goalscorer to provider after picking out Solano at the back post for the Peruvian midfielder to bundle home United's fourth of the evening.

Newcastle too hot for Irons (2001/02)

Newcastle signed off their 2001/02 campaign at St. James' Park with a 12th home victory of the season after coming from behind to seal a 3-1 win.

Teenage forward Jermain Defoe broke the deadlock for the visitors, managed by former Newcastle captain Glenn Roeder, but Alan Shearer equalised shortly before the break after beating the offside trap and placed the ball past David James.

The Magpies, who had already sealed Champions League qualification before their penultimate league match of the term, dominated the second-half and took the lead nine minutes after the restart through Lomana LuaLua's sliding effort before Laurent Robert, a constant threat all afternoon, extended the hosts' lead with an easy tap-in.
