With Newcastle United returning to Premier League action against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm BST) we take a look at the club's most memorable clashes at Stamford Bridge...

Cissé's devastating double (2012)

United's last away victory over Chelsea came back in May 2012, courtesy of two sensational strikes - one in each half - from Papiss Cissé.

The Senegalese forward, who signed in the January transfer window that year, took his goalscoring tally to an impressive 13 goals in 12 Premier League appearances.

The 2-0 win over the eventual Champions League winners saw Newcastle secure fifth place in the top-flight, their highest finish in eight years, to qualify for the Europa League.

Shola sinks Chelsea with last-gasp winner (2010)

A seven-goal classic saw a reshuffled Newcastle side fall behind in the opening six minutes of their League Cup third round clash.

However, strikes from Nile Ranger, Ryan Taylor and Shola Ameobi gave the away side a commendable 3-1 lead. Despite conceding twice in the final 20 minutes, the cup clash ended in dramatic fashion as Ameobi's glancing header, his second goal of the tie, delivered the visitors' first win at Stamford Bridge for 24 years to set up a fourth round meeting with finalists Arsenal.

Taylor causes déjà vu with injury-time leveller (2011)

Seven months later, United produced more late heroics against Carlo Ancelotti's side in their penultimate Premier League match of the season as Steven Taylor's stoppage-time header earned a point for the Magpies.

United fell behind after two minutes through Branislav Ivanovic before Jonás Gutiérrez levelled with a deflected strike.

Despite Alex restoring the Blues' lead late on, Taylor was left unmarked to head home in the dying stages as Newcastle finished 12th in their return to the top-flight following their brief Championship stint.

King Kev scores from the spot (1983)

Prior to this 2-0 victory, United hadn't tasted an away triumph over the Blues in 22 league occasions.

However, the winless streak ended through Kevin Keegan's clinical penalty before strike partner Imre Varadi doubled Newcastle's lead in the closing stages, with Chris Waddle, Terry McDermott and John Anderson all featuring in the Magpies' starting eleven.

Beardsley nets as United maintain top-flight status (1986)

Following automatic promotion in 1984, Willie McFaul's side claimed a convincing 3-1 First Division win over the West London side in November 1986.

After Andy Thomas cancelled out Gordon Durie's first-half opener, United's summer signing grabbed his second before Peter Beardsley sealed three important points.

The Magpies achieved the double over Chelsea with a vital 1-0 home win in April which saw Newcastle narrowly avoid relegation by five points.
