It may not be in the Emirates FA Cup or Carabao Cup final, but Newcastle will run out at the new Wembley for the first time this week. Barely 24 hours after their win over Manchester United last May, demolition started on Tottenham’s home of 112 years at White Hart Lane, with construction of their new ground on the same site already well underway. Until it is ready, though, Spurs will be playing at Wembley.
Despite Tottenham’s improvement in recent years, the Magpies were victorious on three of their last four trips to White Hart Lane, and – though they were battling against the drop at the time – ran out 2-1 winners on their final visit 18 months ago.
Newcastle were one of the last sides to play at the old Wembley, contesting an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea in April 2000. They lost 2-1 to the Blues, who went on to lift the trophy after beating Aston Villa.
