Everton are among the clubs who have never been relegated from the Premier League since its inception in 1992. Save for three seasons in the years that have followed, an annual trip to Goodison Park has been in the diaries of United fans, and this season they will return there for the penultimate away trip of the campaign at the end of April.
Recent trips to Goodison haven’t proved to be memorable occasions for Newcastle supporters, though. The Magpies haven’t brought three points back to Tyneside from the 125-year-old stadium in their last five attempts, with just one point to show from those games.
United’s last victory there came in September 2010, when Hatem Ben Arfa’s stunning strike on his first start for the club handed them a 1-0 victory.
During Rafa Benitez’s time in charge of Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool, the current Newcastle boss won four of his seven trips to Goodison Park. He also won there on his only league visit as interim manager of Chelsea in December 2013, guiding them to a 2-1 victory. He will hope be hoping for another successful return to the city of Liverpool when United face the Toffees under the lights on Monday night.
