The Merseysider has had an outstanding first full campaign in black and white, providing ten goals and ten assists in the Premier League, as well as being involved in all six of the Magpies’ Champions League fixtures.
And, along the way, he was handed a senior England debut by Gareth Southgate, ultimately playing twice for the Three Lions against Brazil and Belgium in March. With the European Championships in Germany just around the corner, the 23-year-old will be hopeful of adding to his cap tally on the big stage.
He’s the third of the Magpies’ England internationals to win the award in recent years, following in the footsteps of Callum Wilson in 2020/21 and Kieran Trippier 12 months ago.
