Newcastle United forward Miguel Almirón has been selected in Paraguay's 23-man squad ahead of the Copa América in June.

The 25-year-old, who joined Newcastle from MLS outfit Atlanta United in January, made ten Premier League appearances this term as the Magpies finished in 13th place.

La Albirroja will participate in two friendlies before heading to Brazil for the 12-team tournament, facing Honduras on Thursday 6th June (kick-off 12am BST) and Guatemala on Sunday, 9th June (kick-off 10pm BST).

Paraguay get their campaign under way against Qatar at the Maracanã on Sunday, 16th June (kick-off 8pm BST) before facing 14-time winners Argentina and Colombia in Group B as Eduardo Berrizo's side go in search of their third Copa América title, winning the tournament in 1953 and 1979 respectively.

Almirón, a two-time Paraguay Footballer of the Year, made his international debut in 2015 and represented his country at the 2016 Copa América Centenario, starting two matches in a group-stage exit.
