Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been named in the England Under-21 squad for the European Championship finals in June.

The Young Lions sealed their place at the finals in Italy and San Marino after topping Group 4 with eight wins from ten qualifying matches, with Woodman featuring between the sticks in England's 3-0 win against Latvia at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium.

Aidy Boothroyd's side face France, Romania and Croatia in Group C, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals along with securing a place at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Woodman, who currently has six caps at that level, featured three times for Newcastle United's first-team as the 22-year-old played in the Magpies' FA Cup ties against Blackburn Rovers and Watford.

The young shot-stopper - godson of England manager Gareth Southgate - was a part of the Under-21 side which won the Toulon Tournament last term, winning the trophy for a third successive year.

Woodman also won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017, saving a penalty from Venezuela's Adalberto Penaranda in the final, which England won 1-0, and received the Golden Glove award for the tournament's best goalkeeper.
