Newcastle United Under-18s came from two goals down to record an impressive 4-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday.

The Toon teenagers fell behind before the half-time break at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground through Matheus Mané's strike before Ollie Stafford doubled Wolves' advantage shortly after the break.

Chris Moore's side, however, completed a terrific fightback as teenage attacking midfielder Alex O'Donovan halved the deficit in the 59th minute as Kyle Fitzgerald headed Jake Durrant's cross from the left flank into O'Donovan's path, who netted from close-range.

Fitzgerald, who joined the Magpies from hometown club Galway United last month, equalised for United's youngsters in the closing stages as the Irish winger, making his full debut for Newcastle's under-18 side, latched onto Mo Waddani's pass before slotting home his first goal for the club at under-18 level.

The visitors completed a brilliant second half comeback in the 85th minute as Bjorn Marwa netted an own goal, with the Wolves midfielder only able to turn Kacey Wooster's shot into his own net as the 16-year-old striker had initially rounded Wolves goalkeeper George Hardy.

Wooster, however, managed to get his name on the scoresheet two minutes later as the promising forward, who joined United's youth set-up from Southend United in the summer of 2023, ensured maximum points with a third goal in his last two league games at under-18 level.
