On-loan Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock has been nominated for the EA Sports Premier League player of the month award for May.

Willock, who has been on loan at St. James’ Park from Arsenal, has had a sensational impact during his time at the Magpies, with his opener in the 2-0 final-day win at Fulham his seventh strike in his last seven games.

And now the 21-year-old’s form in May - which saw him score against Leicester, Manchester City and the winner against Sheffield United before Sunday’s strike at Craven Cottage - has earned him a nomination for the monthly award.

His efforts helped United round off the season in style, winning three of their four games that month and securing a 12th-placed finish - with Willock becoming just the second player in the club’s history to net in seven successive Premier League outings.

Willock is named on an eight-man shortlist, along with Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale, Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Sadio Mane, Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke, Aaron Ramsdale of Sheffield United, Nicolas Pepe of Arsenal and Leeds United’s Rodrigo.

Voting for the award opened here at 11am on Tuesday, 25th May, and closes at 6pm on Wednesday, 26th May. The winner will be announced at 11am on Friday, 28th May.
