Charlotte Potts is remaining "level-headed" as Newcastle United Women go in search of history by lifting the FA Women's National League Cup against Hashtag United Women on Saturday

Potts is currently in her second stint with United having also played in Scotland, Canada and Switzerland, and the defender is one of the first names on the team-sheet under Becky Langley.

Newcastle know they have a huge chance to break new ground and create new memories with over 3,000 Geordies at Kenilworth Road, but Potts is keen to treat this weekend's final as she would every fixture.

"Funnily enough, (I'm not getting excited), I'm level-headed more than anything," Potts told nufc.co.uk. "There's a lot of excitement around but we approach it just like any other game.

"It's just one more game to tick off; the only difference is there's an accolade at the end of it."

Strong away contingents like at Kenilworth Road have become the norm for Langley's side this season, while Potts and her team-mates have only tasted defeat on two occasions in all competitions this term, against Nottingham Forest Women and Manchester United Women respectively.

And Potts added: "Every little piece of work is for moments like this, it's why you do it. We approach every day and think about what session are we doing next and what's the next game.

"We know how important it is to inspire people - forget about the trophy. There are going to be a lot of fans backing us so we'll show how hard we work to those people.”

Langley's side are looking to record an historic double this season. They boast a 12-point lead at the top of the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division, and will potentially be just 90 minutes away from lifting a national trophy this weekend.

"It would be extremely special," Potts added, "I think because we played the semi-final at St. James' Park in front of 22,000 and knowing how many people are backing us.

"It's incredible the support we have, knowing over 3,000 fans are going down to Luton for us, and we can potentially create a lot of good memories."

Newcastle are set to take on Hashtag United Women at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:30pm GMT. Tickets can be purchased here.
