A 1-1 draw in the quarter-final tie against the Netherlands meant the game went to penalties, where Ireland goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran was issued a second yellow card from referee Zbynek Proske for coming off his line when saving the fifth Dutch spot-kick.

The young keeper was left in tears before handing his shirt to McEntee, who dived the right way but couldn't keep out Daishawn Redan's penalty which saw Holland win 5-4 and led Martin O'Neill, the Republic of Ireland senior national team manager, to confront the officials.

The game was played at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium. McEntee, 17, has just completed his first year as a scholar with Newcastle's Little Benton Academy.
