Newcastle United will face Burton Albion away from home in a pre-season friendly this summer, it has been confirmed.

The Magpies will travel to the Pirelli Stadium on Friday, 30th July, with kick-off set for 7:45pm.

It will be just the second time United have faced Burton away from home, with the first coming in the 2016/17 Championship-winning campaign, where goals from Dwight Gayle and Mo Diamé earned a 2-1 win.

They also faced each other at St. James’ Park that season, in a game best remembered for Matt Ritchie’s penalty being controversially ruled out by referee Keith Stroud. Ritchie’s subsequent winner sealed a 1-0 win on that occasion.

The game against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men, who secured safety in League One towards the end of last season, is the third pre-season fixture announced by Newcastle ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Steve Bruce’s side will face both York City and Harrogate Town on Sunday, 18th July, with the Magpies’ first team squad set to be split between the two fixtures.

Ticketing information for the trip to face the Brewers, along with the York and Harrogate friendlies, will be confirmed on nufc.co.uk in due course, along with details of any further pre-season matches.
