It was a successful break from domestic action for many in the Magpies' first team squad, with Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento becoming the first three United players to start a game for England since 1997.

Hall and Livramento made their senior bows for the Three Lions in the last week, while Alexander Isak, Miguel Almirón and Sandro Tonali were all on target for their respective countries too.

Most of the Magpies squad were back to work on Tyneside ahead of the Hammers clash on Thursday, with Serena Taylor bringing newcastleunited.com this gallery of images from a freezing cold morning at United's Benton training centre.
