Eddie Howe has made three changes for Newcastle United's Premier League visit of Norwich City on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.30pm GMT).

With club captain Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie ruled out to face Dean Smith's Canaries at St. James' Park due to suspension, defensive pair Ciaran Clark and Jamal Lewis, who joined Newcastle from Norwich in September 2020, have both been handed starts in the Magpies' backline.

Howe - who is set to take charge of his first game in the home dugout tonight - has reverted to a four-man defence as Javier Manquillo occupies the right-back spot, with Ryan Fraser likely to feature in midfield.

Martin Dúbravka, who gained his first start of the season away at Arsenal on Saturday, continues in between the sticks while Swiss defender Fabian Schär makes his third successive start at centre-back.

Jonjo Shelvey is set for his 250th Premier League appearance and will be situated in the middle of the park alongside Joe Willock while Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton will aim to provide attacking support for Callum Wilson, who captains the hosts this evening, and is one yellow card shy of suspension.

Howe has attacking options to deploy from the substitutes' bench, including Dwight Gayle - who netted a hat-trick in United's 4-3 win over City during the 2016/17 season - and Miguel Almirón.

Federico Fernández has been named in a matchday squad for the first time since Newcastle's home encounter against Tottenham Hotspur, featuring on the bench along with Emil Krafth, Isaac Hayden, Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick.

Karl Darlow is the substitute goalkeeper.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schär, Ciaran Clark, Jamal Lewis, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock, Ryan Fraser, Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, Callum Wilson (c).

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Emil Krafth, Federico Fernández, Isaac Hayden, Jacob Murphy, Jeff Hendrick, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almirón, Dwight Gayle.
