Allan Saint-Maximin returns to Newcastle United's starting XI ahead of the Magpies' Premier League visit of West Ham United at St. James' Park (12.30pm kick-off).

The French winger, who makes his first start since he was withdrawn from February's 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, is the only change from last week's 2-1 win at Burnley, replacing striker Dwight Gayle.

In front of goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka, Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett are situated in the heart of United's defence, with Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie occupying the respective right and left flanks.

Jonjo Shelvey, captaining the hosts this afternoon, continues in the middle of the park alongside Sean Longstaff with Joelinton retaining his place in attack, as Miguel Almirón and Saint-Maximin aim to provide support for United's number nine.

Callum Wilson, who also returned to competitive action against Burnley after suffering a hamstring injury against Southampton, is one of three strikers on the United bench, with former Hammer Andy Carroll and Gayle also named amongst the substitutes.

Joe Willock and Jeff Hendrick, who scored on his Newcastle debut in the reverse fixture against the Hammers, a 2-0 win at the London Stadium in September, are also on the bench along with goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, Jacob Murphy, Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey (c), Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almirón, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Mark Gillespie, Javier Manquillo, Emil Krafth, Jamal Lewis, Joe Willock, Jeff Hendrick, Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle, Callum Wilson.
