Pre-Season. Team news: Home debuts for new boys

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benítez has handed home debuts to two of his summer recruits as his side get ready to face Hellas Verona at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Florian Lejeune and Javier Manquillo will both feature in front of the Magpies’ home crowd for the first time, while another summer recruit, Christian Atsu, also starts his first game at St. James’ since making his loan move from Chelsea permanent in May.

And a further two new arrivals, Mikel Merino and Jacob Murphy, could also make their home bows, having been named on the bench by Benítez for Newcastle's final pre-season friendly.

Rob Elliot starts in goal, with Manquillo, Lejeune, Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett making up the back four.

Scotland international Matt Ritchie will play on the right-hand side of midfield, with Isaac Hayden partnering Jonjo Shelvey in the middle and Atsu on the left flank.

And Ayoze Perez will play just off the sole striker in United’s line-up, Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow and defenders Jesus Gamez, Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba are named on the bench, while Mohamed Diamé, Rolando Aarons, Siem de Jong, Merino and Murphy are also among the substitutes.
