Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has handed starts to Joelinton, Javier Manquillo, Ciaran Clark and Isaac Hayden as his side seek a first win of the season at Manchester United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Magpies return to Premier League action at Old Trafford following the international break, with head coach Bruce opting to make four changes from the side which drew at home to Southampton a fortnight ago.

Freddie Woodman keeps his place in goal, although Karl Darlow has been deemed fit enough to return to the bench.

In front of him, Manquillo comes in for Jacob Murphy to make his first start of the season at right wing-back, with Hayden – who returns after injury kept him out of the clash with the Saints – joining captain Jamaal Lascelles and Clark, who is preferred to Federico Fernández, in a back three.

Matt Ritchie keeps his place at left wing-back, while Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Miguel Almirón continue in midfield.

And Joelinton is handed a start in place of the injured Callum Wilson, with Allan Saint-Maximin supporting the Brazilian in attack.

Bruce has a largely experienced bench to choose from, with Fernández and Murphy included alongside Emil Krafth, Fabian Schär, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick and goalkeeper Darlow.

Dwight Gayle provides an attacking option among the substitutes, while Cumbrian teenager Joe White is also named on the bench for the first time.

Meanwhile, the hosts have handed a start to summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo, who will make his second debut for the Red Devils against United.

Newcastle United: Freddie Woodman; Javier Manquillo, Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Matt Ritchie; Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock, Miguel Almirón; Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Emil Krafth, Jacob Murphy, Fabian Schär, Federico Fernández, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Joe White, Dwight Gayle.
