Goalkeeper Karl Darlow returns to face his former club, replacing Matz Sels in between the sticks.

At left-back, Paul Dummett makes his first start in almost a fortnight, the 25-year-old having sat out the Magpies’ midweek EFL Cup defeat to Hull City after his substitute appearance against Blackburn Rovers last Saturday.

There is also a change at the opposite end of the United backline, where DeAndre Yedlin comes in for Vurnon Anita.

Further forward, Newcastle remain as they were at the KCOM Stadium, save for Ayoze Perez’s re-introduction, the Spaniard preferred to Mohamed Diame behind lone frontman Dwight Gayle.
