Miguel Almirón and Javier Manquillo return to Newcastle United's starting line-up ahead of the Magpies' Premier League trip to Brighton & Hove Albion (8pm kick-off).

The Magpies aim to move five points clear of the relegation zone with a much-needed victory at the Amex Stadium and Almirón earns a first start since suffering a knee injury in last month's 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, replacing Dwight Gayle to face the Seagulls.

The Paraguayan forward is one of two changes from the side which were held to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa last week as Javier Manquillo, a second-half substitute against the Villans, replaces Emil Krafth at right-back this evening on the South coast.

Goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka starts in between the sticks, while Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark continue their partnership in the heart of United's backline with Paul Dummett occupying the left flank of defence.

Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock maintain their places in the middle of the park, with Ryan Fraser and Joelinton likely to support Almirón in attack.

Gayle and Andy Carroll are among the Magpies' substitutes as well as Jacob Murphy, who provided an assist for United's stoppage-time equaliser against Villa.

Karl Darlow is the Magpies' back-up goalkeeping option while Federico Fernández, Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie, Sean Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick complete the list of players Steve Bruce can deploy from the bench.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock, Ryan Fraser, Miguel Almirón, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Federico Fernández, Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie, Jeff Hendrick, Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll.
