The midfielder arrived from Barclays Women's Championship side Lewes in the summer and has made an instant impact on Tyneside, scoring her first goal for the club in the 4-0 away win at AFC Fylde on the opening day of the new league season.

Stobbs has a wealth of experience under her belt and has always had an affiliation with Newcastle through her family, to the point that the Keegan in her name is due to her dad's love of 'King Kev'.

Upon learning that she will lead the Magpies out every single week, the midfielder said: "It's surreal. I'm captain of Newcastle United Women.

"Every game, when I see the armband with the black and white shirt in the dressing room, it hits me again.

"The last pre-season game I was given the armband and I saw the armband by my shirt. Instantly the tears of happiness and pride came. In my mind, it was for one game, and you can imagine my feelings and reaction when Becky gave me the honour of wearing it for the season.

"It just overwhelmed me. Captain for the club I love. I'm so happy for myself and my family, and I just hope I can do everyone proud."

Newcastle United Women boss Becky Langley said: "We knew from the moment Amber arrived at the club what a great professional she is.

"She drives our standards every single day on and off the pitch in training and carries that mentality and desire into matchdays.

"This club means everything to her and she gives her all for the badge."

Grace Donnelly remains United's club captain and continues to play a key role on and off the pitch.
