Shania Hayles has been named the Women's Sela Player of the Month, collecting the award on Halloween following a spell of frightening form throughout October.

A victory in her Tyne-Wear derby debut was followed by a first professional hat-trick in the 3-3 thriller against Charlton Athletic. Eye-catching performances also resulted in the 24-year-old rounding off a memorable month with a call-up to the Jamaica Women's National Team.

But Hayles, who joined from Bristol City Women in the summer, insisted: "I feel like I'm still finding my feet, which is the funny thing. I've got so much more to give.

"It’s been nice to add a few goals this month so I just want to keep scoring. I've played in the Championship twice before and scored 12 or 13. That's my record to beat; I'm aiming for 15. If I keep contributing goals and assists that help to get three points, then I'll be happy."

The forward is already a third of the way towards her target having supplied five goals - and two assists - in seven appearances, which included an "unforgettable" personal goalscoring milestone.

"The highlight of the month has to be the hat-trick against Charlton," she added. "It was the first of my career and a very big moment for me.

"The Tyne-Wear derby was also a great experience so it's been a month to remember. The fans were amazing and it's unreal how much they got behind us. I think I had to see it with my own eyes to really believe it.

"I can't wait for the return fixture at St. James' Park. I've got my friends and family coming so that will be incredible. Hopefully we can get as many fans there as possible and get the three points.

"We've got a couple of important games before that so we're fully concentrating on the month ahead now."

Newcastle United Women's next home game sees them return to St. James' Park to take on Southampton Women in the Women's Championship on Sunday, 17th November (kick-off 2pm BST). Tickets are on sale now from book.newcastleunited.com.
