Eddie Howe's side travel to Old Trafford targeting a third successive Premier League victory, following back-to-back wins against Fulham and Brentford, and this will be the second time Pawson has officiated a game involving the Magpies this term.

The Sheffield whistler was the man in the middle for Newcastle's 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth at St. James' Park last month, awarding a penalty to the hosts following a VAR check, which was converted by Swedish forward Alexander Isak. The 43-year-old also handed out four yellow cards that afternoon, booking Dan Burn and Joelinton.

Pawson took charge of four Newcastle fixtures last term, including the recent encounter between the two sides, a 1-1 draw in December 2021, as well as the 1-0 win against Aston Villa in February and March's 1-0 loss at Everton before the final-day 2-1 win at Burnley.

Nearing 20 years as a referee, Pawson's first Premier League appointment came in a game involving Newcastle back in March 2013 as the Magpies suffered a 1-0 defeat at Swansea City
