Bianca Owens was on the scoresheet twice when Newcastle United Women defeated Leeds United Women 5-1 at the So-Trak Stadium on Sunday to set up a thrilling finale to the FA Women's National League Division One North title race

The striker led the line for the Magpies from the off and contributed the assist for Kacie Elson's first-half opener, before adding two headed goals either side of half-time as United eclipsed the Lilywhites in their own backyard.

"I love to score and just to help the girls get the three points," she said to nufc.co.uk after the full-time whistle.

"It helps, with the situation we are in. The goals matter, and I'm happy to help.

"(I found it) really, really enjoyable. I have just been patient and I was happy Becky (Langley) gave me the chance today."

It wasn't just Owens' goalscoring prowess that caught the eye in Tadcaster, though, as the striker bullied the Leeds defence and gave Langley's team a lynchpin from which they could hang their attacks on.

"I think as the years have gone by, my game has changed," said Owens of her ability to bring others into play.

"I now rely on my first touch being my main asset so I do take pride in it.

"Holding the ball up to get other players involved, playing the wide players in, that's a part of my game that I have adapted over the years."

Owens arrived at Newcastle earlier this season, and after a brief loan spell back at former club Norton & Stockton Ancients Ladies, the forward is now fully focused on assisting the Magpies achieve their aims this term.

"Since I've came in the girls have been fantastic with me," she added. "They've let me settle in and be me, and we are quite fortunate that we have the chance to play every week, so why not enjoy it when we are out there?

"Everyone's (mentality) is just the same: it's one game at a time.

"The game we play next week is no different to the one we played last week, or even six weeks ago. We take each match as it comes and try and get those points on the board."

Newcastle Women have two games remaining. On Sunday, the Magpies travel to the University of Bradford Stadium, formerly Valley Parade, to take on Bradford City Women, while on Sunday, 7th May, Langley's side will face Barnsley Women in a season-concluding fixture.
