Newcastle United Under-23s' Northumberland Senior Cup first round tie against Newcastle Benfield has a new date.

The young Magpies were due to face the Northern League Division One outfit at Whitley Park on Tuesday, 28th September but the cup clash has now been moved to Wednesday, 13th October as the non-league side could face a midweek replay in the FA Vase.

United's second-string will face the Lions at the same venue, with kick-off taking place at 7.30pm (BST).

The two sides last met in the competition back in January 2020 as the young Magpies advanced into the semi-finals via a penalty shoot-out victory, following a 1-1 draw at Sam Smith's Park, before the tournament was later curtailed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Newcastle's youngsters have won the competition a record 38 times, with their most recent cup triumph coming back in 2018 after defeating Morpeth Town 3-1 at St. James' Park.
