Anthony Taylor will be the referee for Newcastle United's home fixture against Southampton on Saturday (kick-off 5.30pm BST).

The 40-year-old has been involved in four games this term and was the man in the middle for Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal over a fortnight ago but booked no United players on that occasion.

The Manchester-born official has overseen the Magpies' away victories at Burnley and Huddersfield Town along with Newcastle's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford back in October.

Taylor was promoted to the Select Group of Referees in 2010, becoming a listed referee for FIFA in 2013. He has taken charge of games in the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup, Europa League and at international level.

This season, Taylor has shown a total of 92 yellow cards and one red card in 28 Premier League outings, sending off Arsenal's Lucas Torreira in the North London derby draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.

On Saturday, Taylor will be assisted by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, while Kevin Friend will be the fourth official.
