Simon Hooper will be the referee for Newcastle United's Premier League game visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm GMT).

The Swindon-born official will take charge of his first game involving the Magpies this term and his fifth top-flight fixture of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 37-year-old was the man in the middle for United's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City in September 2018, awarding a penalty to the Foxes following DeAndre Yedlin's handball, which was converted by striker Jamie Vardy.

Hooper, who was promoted to the Select Group of Referees last year, has refereed 12 games so far this season, showing 46 yellow cards and one red card to Bournemouth captain Simon Francis during the Cherries' 2-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

On Saturday, Hooper will be assisted by Richard West and Derek Eaton with Ross Joyce as the fourth official. Chris Kavanagh will be the video assistant referee while Sian Massey-Ellis will be the assistant VAR.
